Our area's biggest landowner, the Department of Conservation and Recreation,
Division of Water Supply Protection (DCR)

provided grants and other forms of support.

Management (DEM), has
provided grants and other forms of support.
The Rails
to Trails Conservancy is a strong advocate for rail trails.
Mass Central Rail Trail
Site
– once a 104-mile railroad line from Northampton to Boston, now the
corridor is being restored as a rail trail –
a path for bicyclists, walkers, runners, baby strollers and young
cyclists with training wheels, wheel chair users, cross country skier,
equestrians and nature enthusiasts
The Holden
Police Department has been particularly supportive of bike
safety and bike path patrolling.

– a
scenic
footpath located in Worcester County, 45 miles west of Boston. This 92-mile
hiking trail extends from Rhode Island crossing the gentle hills of central
Massachusetts and eventually connecting to the Wapack Trail in New Hampshire.
White Oak Land Conservation
Society
– founded in 1978
to preserve land as open space in Holden and the region surrounding Holden.
Seven Hills Wheelmen
– a
recreational group for adults in the Worcester, MA, area who
enjoy bicycling and other outdoor activities.
Appalachian Mountain Club

– the local chapter
of the nation’s oldest outdoor recreation and conservation organization.

East Coast Greenway
– aiming
to connect cities and towns of the East Coast with a continuous, traffic-free
path, the East Coast Greenway spans 3,000 miles from Calais, Maine to Key
West, Florida.

a one-stop shop for many adventure travel needs.
American Hiking Society
– promotes and protects foot trails and the hiking experience. Wachusett
Greenways is a sustaining member of AHS.
