PAXTON 

1. MIDSTATE TRAIL. Treasure Valley, Rockland Road. The Midstate Trail passes Sampson's Pebble, the giant rock at Treasure Valley Boy Scout Reservation. Another access point to the Midstate Trail is to follow Marshall Street west and take first left after South Street in Paxton onto Paxton Road, Spencer. The trail crosses the road 3/10 mile ahead just before the small airport on the left.

2. ASNEBUMSKIT POND. Protected land surrounding the town reservoir located off Route 3 I.

3. KLINGELE PROPERTY. Near Asnebumskit Pond on Route 31, this parcel has a small network of walking paths. Two additional parcels are located across Grove St. from Anna Maria College.

4. VARNUM PROPERTY. Marshall Street and South Street area containing wetlands and stream-good for bird watching. No trails developed.

5. HILL STREET PROPERTY. Steep open land adjacent to Fisheries and Wildlife land.

6. TOWN RECREATION AND SMITH LANDS. Recreational and wooded area that surrounds the Paxton Center School. Access from Rt. 3 I behind the school. Recreation uses include a playground, ballfields, basketball court, tennis court and town pool. Illig Pond is here with a wooded area and walking and cross country ski trails.

7. ASNEBUMSKIT PROPERTY (CLARKSON). Conservation land with access from Knollwood Road. Wooded area, some marshland, birding, steep sloped areas, some hiking.

8. BOYNTON PARK. City of Worcester woodlands, trails, ballfields and biking. Main access on Pleasant Street (Route 122) near the Paxtoni Worcester line.

9. APPALACHIAN MOUNTAIN CLUB. Access at the end of Howard Street. Extensive hiking trails. Contact the AMC 797-9744 for information about events for all ages.

10. ANNA MARIA COLLEGE. Grove Street, four year coed college. Extensive grounds which include numerous athletic fields. There is a small theater on campus that offers plays and musical events and a library for town use.

11. MASS DIVISION OF FISHERIES AND WILDLIFE. Hill and Laurel Streets. More than 180 acres conservation land maintained for fishing and hunting.

12. MOORE STATE PARK. Route 31 south, West Street. Unique 671 acre state park includes historic mill sites, spectacular rhododendron and azalea plantings, waterfalls, Enchanta bridge, pond for canoeing and walking and cross country trails.

13. CARRUTH ROAD. Access from Moore State Park. A town road that was in existence from 1746-1832. An early link from southern Rutland to the mill village in Paxton.

14. TREASURE VALLEY Mohegan Council, Boy Scouts of America camp with hiking trails.

15. GREATERWORCESTER LAND TRUST. Area on Crystal Street which borders a pond and additional area on Walbridge Road.
