We have one more Saturday hike in February

Sawyer’s Bluff Hike Saturday, Feb 25, 11:00am

Meet at Wachusett Reservoir Gate 8, Intersection of Cross Street and Route 70, Boylston.

Followed by Bark and Buds Winter Tree Id at 1:00pm: A very slow-paced winter tree identification walk around Stillwater Farm, located at 228 Redemption Rock Road, Sterling.

I will keep an eye on the wind chill/trail conditions and set up an auto-reply email and phone message in case of any cancellations by 9 am on Saturday. To check on the status, please send an email or call 774-261-1809 for the recorded message.

We will wrap up the winter hiking series with a hike to Greenhalge Point on March 4 at 10:00am and finally the Legends and Lore Hike on March 11 at 10 am.

FISHISTORY: History of Fishing at Wachusett Reservoir

DCR Watershed Rangers present the history of fishing from the 1890s to today at the Wachusett Reservoir and showcase the species of fish found in the reservoir from surveys. Followed by a Q&A. Meet at Fitchburg Public Library, 610 Main Street Fitchburg.

Get to know the trails on this guided hike to Greenhalge Point. Moderate hike will be at a slow pace and approximately 4 miles. Meet at Gate 35, the intersection of Route 110 and Chase Hill Road, Sterling.

LEGENDS AND LORE NORTH DIKE HIKE

Take a walk past Cemetery Island to the Clinton Dam and discuss the legends and lore of the area. Bring your own stories to tell! About 2.5 miles round trip. Meet at Wachusett Reservoir, Gate 39, Route 110 & South Meadow Road, Clinton.

All ages welcome to observe seasonal changes, record memorable events, and become a citizen scientist. Recycled supplies provided to make your own nature journal/almanac. Meet at DCR Division of Water Supply Protection Headquarters, 180 Beaman St, West Boylston.

CACHE IN/TRASH OUT GEOCACHING EVENT

SUDBURY RESERVOIR CACHE IN/TRASH OUT GEOCACHING Park Serve Day Event

Celebrate Earth Day by helping the DCR Watershed Rangers clean up at the Sudbury Reservoir. Please bring your own water, gloves, and bug repellent. Trash bags will be provided. We will meet at 911 Field, then break into groups to different locations. Meet at DCR 911 Field, Acre Bridge Road, Southborough.

HIKE TO SCAR HILL BLUFFS

Join DCR on a round trip, about 3 mile guided hike to the library’s backyard watershed. This hike will lead to shoreline views on easy-to-moderate terrain covering a few inclines from paved road to dirt access road, and then from forest trail to sandy shore. Meet at Boylston Public Library 695 Main Street, Boylston.

DAM DAY

The walkway across the top of the Dam will be open for enjoying the view of the Reservoir. DCR Watershed Rangers will answer questions and provide information on DCR’s watershed protection program.
